Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (DMHSAS)

Comprehensive prevention services to a nine county area in S.W. Oklahoma. Primary focus: alcohol and other drugs. Secondary areas of concern: meth and inhalants, violence. Target Populations: community coalitions, students
K-12.

Comanche, Grady and Stephens County Teen Pregnancy Prevention Task Forces with representation from the following sectors: medical, faith-based, peer educators, public housing, law enforcement, judiciary, government officials, parents and the Comanche, Apache, Kiowa, Wichita Tribes.

Oklahoma State Department of Health

Comanche County Teen Pregnancy Project Primary Focus: research based curricula to reduce teen pregnancy rates. Target population: parents and 11-14 year old boys and girls.

Lawton Public Schools, Weed and Seed, Public Housing, INDEX program, COPS program, neighborhood associations, DHS, peer educators, the Tribes, Boy/Girl Scouts.

City of Lawton Community Development Block Grant

APRC launches N.O.T.Y.E.T.
New Oklahoma Trend - Youth Empowering Teens. A substance abuse, violence and teen pregnancy prevention peer education program. Target population: low income and minority youth and their parents.

1998-2003

Southwest Oklahoma Tobacco Free Coalition with representation from 10 County Health Departments, public schools, retailers, media, parents, medical professionals, the Tribes and others.

Students working August Tobacce (SWAT) - over 300 youth, age 12-19 and volunteers from 10 counties.

Oklahoma State Department of Health

Comanche County outreach program to reduce tobacco use, in cooperation with the Southwest Oklahoma Tobacco Free Coalition.

1998-2003

The Lawton/Ft. Sill Community Coalition that represents 18 community sectors and its Youth Board. Employees over 200 volunteers annually in its mission that includes: substance abuse, community development, teen pregnancy, meth and inhalants, and other preventable risk behaviors.

Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP)

Drug Free Communities Support Project grant is awarded to Coalition for targeted substance abuse strategies in Comanche County. Implementing Botvin's Life Skills curriculum for every 6th, 7th and 8th grade student (4500) in Lawton Public Schools.

2000-2003

University of Oklahoma, the Governor's office, the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, the SICA S.W. Regional Advisory Board, Oklahoma Juvenile Justice, Oklahoma Highway Safety Commission, and media outlets. Project 21 Committee, a youth led advisory and volunteers group.

State Incentive Cooperative Agreement (SICA)

Implementing environmental prevention strategies to reduce youth access to alcohol and tobacco. Implementing research based curricula (Reconnecting Youth and Residential Student Assistance Program) to indicated (very high-risk) youth, age 12-17.

2002-2003

Independent School Districts in 4 counties, Riverside Indian School, parents of teens age 12-17, the Tribes and community organizations.

HHRSH-SPRANS Special Projects of Regional and National Significance

Research, development, piloting and evaluating Abstinence curricula for rural adolescents with special focus on African American, Latino, and Native American youth and families.
