2M2L

Targeting communities throughout the state, 2 Much 2 Lose (2M2L) aims to decrease underage drinking and related social problems, decrease youth access to alcohol, increase community-level support for environmental change, and increase youth-driven prevention activities. The project’s comprehensive plan includes law enforcement training and technical assistance, community mobilization, strategic partnership development, youth leadership development, inter-agency collaboration, and media advocacy.

2M2L Clubs: Any school or organization that wants to start a 2M2L club can do so at: www.2much2lose.com.

2M2L Clubs participate in the state’s underage drinking prevention initiative by doing local and statewide action-based activities. Youth leaders are given the tools to effectively combat underage drinking utilizing the environmental prevention model.

2M2L Academy: A 2M2L Academy is held every summer. The purpose of the academy is to bring together teams of high school students and adults from across Oklahoma who are concerned about under 21 drinking, impaired driving crashes, and other alcohol/drug related issues. Students develop team “action plans” that will be implemented in their communities when they return home. The youth learn the economic and social costs of underage drinking, impaired driving, and underage access to alcohol; the role of the environment; and how to change community norms and educate the public that under 21 drinking is illegal and unacceptable.

In 2016, Cameron University hosted the 2M2L Academy, and the local news station (KSWO) interviewed local youth who attended. That story is in the link below:

2M2L Kickoff/Tipoff Event: The 2M2L Kick- Off/ Tip-Off is an annual event held during the current school year where youth in all areas of the state come together to exchange ideas and rally together. Previous events were hosted by the University of Tulsa, University of Oklahoma, and Oklahoma City Barons Hockey team. These events provide a fun day of team building exercises; watching a sporting event; and a chance for unique fan experiences!

2M2L Regional Coordinators: The 2M2L Regional Coordinators assist in the coordination of all efforts to reduce underage drinking as part of Oklahoma’s comprehensive plan. Duties include, but not limited to, enforcement training and technical assistance, community mobilization, strategic partnership development, youth leadership development, interagency collaboration, and media advocacy.

Local Youth Testimonial: I like the 2M2L program, because it unites all the teens in Oklahoma together against a common cause, which is against teens drinking and doing drugs.”(Emily Booker, former Lawton 2M2L youth).
