Naloxone Training

Naloxone, which is also known as Narcan, is an opioid antagonist.  It works by reversing the effects of opioids on the brain.  Opioid overdoses can occur when opioids are not used as prescribed or mixed with alcohol, sedatives, or other substances.  Opioids affect the part of the brain responsible for breathing.  When levels of opioids in your blood are too high, your breathing can slow down, which can result in a coma or death.  Once administered, Naloxone can restore breathing, which allows time for emergency help to arrive.

Wichita Mountains Prevention Network partners with local agencies to provide free Naloxone training to residents.  Attendees will learn how to prevent opioid misuse and abuse, safely store medication, and administer Naloxone.  Attendees will also receive a free Naloxone kit.  Please check our website's event page to find training in your area.  If there is no training available in your area, you can receive training and a free Naloxone kit at the locations listed below. You can also text NALOXONE to 55155 to find a distributor near you.
