988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline
What is 988 ?
The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is the nation’s confidential, mental health crisis Hotline. After advocates for mental health and suicide prevention urged Congress for a shorter, simpler to remember number for those in crisis. 988 was approved to be an easier way to access a network of crisis call centers than the 1-800-273-8255 National Suicide Prevention Lifeline number. The same services will be provided whether you use 988 or 1-800-273-8255. The lifeline provides free and confidential emotional support to people in the United States experiencing a suicidal crisis or emotional distress 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you are concerned about a loved one who requires crisis support, you can also call or text 988.
The 988 Lifeline crisis center network is made up of more than 200 centers answering calls, chats, and texts from people in crisis.
If you or someone you know needs support now, call or text 988 or chat 988lifeline.org
