Jackson County Community

Health Action Team

About Us

The Jackson County Community Health Action Team (JCCHAT) was established as a coalition in 2002.  JCCHAT was founded on the idea that local people working together can better identify and influence the issues affecting the health and quality of life within our community.   The coalition operates under by-laws and is comprised of 38 partnering organizations. There are approximately 60 community members actively engaged in bettering the quality of life in Jackson County.

The mission for JCCHAT is to “Promote strategies that will ignite a culture of healthy lifestyles.”  The vision of the coalition is “Creating a healthy county where we live, work and play.”

Our Community-Based Efforts

The coalition is comprised of six subcommittees that address the needs of the community.  Each subcommittee is unique with its own goals and objectives and meets monthly. The subcommittees are:

  • Jackson County Substance Abuse Committee

  • Jackson County Tobacco Education

  • Southwest Oklahoma Community Health Improvement Organization

  • Community-Based Services

  • Nutrition and Fitness

  • Community Health

Membership

JCCHAT's membership is open to residents of Jackson County. If you would like to participate in prevention efforts in Jackson County, please join us at our monthly meetings. We meet on the second Wednesday of each month at noon.  The meetings are at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital located at 1200 East Pecan Street, Altus, Oklahoma 73521. The meetings are held in the conference room on the second floor.

The Jackson County Substance Abuse Committee is a group of individuals working together to decrease the use and abuse of illegal drugs and abuse of legal controlled substances (alcohol and prescription medications) by youth and adults in Jackson County.  The committee focuses on education and increasing awareness of prescription drug and alcohol abuse.  The committee meets every third Monday of the month at the Jackson County Health Department located at 401 W. Tamarack Road, Altus, Oklahoma 73521 at 10:00 a.m.
